Dr. Fernando F. Fachin is an assistant professor in the Department of Management. Prior to joining the Royal Military College of Canada, he taught at McGill University. Dr Fachin received a PhD in Management at HEC Montréal, an MSc in Administration at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), and a Bachelor of Business Administration at PUC-RS, Brazil. He teaches in both English and French in the fields of Strategic Management and Organization at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Based on a relational ontology, his qualitative research deals with identity, leadership, and strategic ambiguity in extreme contexts. In particular, Dr. Fachin explores the ephemeral and unstable nature of organizing to further our understanding about how people experience, perform, and give meaning to their everyday work. Specifically, Dr. Fachin's recent research includes the study of triadic leadership in military health care centres, the management of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and post-traumatic growth, and project management from a process perspective. His research has received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) as well as awards at annual meetings of the Academy of Management and Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC). Dr. Fachin also co-organizes the Research Seminars for the department, an international event aimed at bringing together a community of interdisciplinary scholars.
Dr Fachin is accepting graduate students interested in pursuing qualitative research (ethnography, netnography, interviews, observations, document analysis, video analysis, etc.) in related fields. Please feel free to contact him with your research interests.
