CWO Hamilton joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2004 as a Field Artillery Gunner. Upon completion of his training, he was posted to the 5eme Regiment d’Artillerie Legere du Canada. During his time in 5 RALC, CWO Hamilton served in Romeo, Quebec and X-Ray Batteries with a deployment in 2007 as part of the 3rd Battalion Royal 22nd Regiment Battle Group on Operation Athena. He was employed as a Gun Detachment Member as well as a Liaison Officer for the 1st Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles earning him a Battle Group Commander’s Commendation and the deployment itself the Commander in Chief Governor General Unit Commendation.

CWO Hamilton was subsequently posted to the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School serving in both Head Quarters and Whiskey Batteries. He filled positions such as the Field Operations NCO and Gun Detachment Second in Command. In 2012, he was tasked to the United Nations Command Honor Guard Company in Soeul, Republic of Korea where he conducted ceremonial tasks and training with the Company as well as an internment of the ashes of a Canadian Korean War Veteran, Pte Archibald Hearsey in Busan.

Following their time at the RCAS, CWO Hamilton was posted to the 2nd Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery as part of Regimental Head Quarters and Delta Battery. Being his longest posting, CWO Hamilton was promoted from Master Bombardier through Warrant Officer filling roles such as the Fire Support Coordination Centre Master Bombardier, Gun Detachment Commander, Regimental Training Sergeant and Battery Technical Warrant Officer. He deployed on Operation Unifier in Yavoriv, Ukraine with the 3rd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment where he trained a 2S1 Self Propelled Artillery Battery to defend their Nation in the Donbas Region before the full-scale invasion.

CWO Hamilton was given the opportunity to become an Assistant Instructor in Gunnery so he was posted back to the RCAS to be a candidate in the program. After graduating as the Top Candidate of the program, he was employed in 67 Battery where he spent the following two years training Artillery Troop Commanders, Technical Supervisors and Troop Sergeant Majors. He was then posted back to 2 RCHA at their Regimental Head Quarters as the Regimental Command Post Officer’s Technician where he assisted in building the Regiment back up from the aftermath of Covid 19 and an aggressive posting season that left the Regiment lacking key qualifications leading up to the road to high readiness where the Regiment was required to deploy two separate Batteries to Latvia and multiple personnel around the world in the same year. In 2023, CWO Hamilton was promoted to the rank of MWO and was posted to the Royal Military College of Canada as D Division’s Sergeant Major. After one year at RMC, CWO Hamilton became the new Drill Sergeant Major for Training Wing and has acted as the Training Wing Sergeant Major on numerous occasions before being appointed as the 21st Training Wing Sergeant Major in December 2024.  

In the midst of a dynamic military career, CWO Hamilton has been supported by his wife Megan and his kids Faith, Elizabeth and Everett where they have been a source of strength and grounding for him.
