Department of Applied Military Science

Victoria per scientiam

The Department of Applied Military Science (AMS) in Kingston, Ontario is part of the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC). It exists to support the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) by developing Officers and Warrant Officers  to be key players in the capability development process. To meet its mandate, AMS offers two programs, the Army Technical Staff Officer (ATSO) and the Army Technical Warrant Officer (ATWO) programs.

Both programs have rigorous academic and practical military components that focus on producing Officers and Warrant Officers that are ready to conduct all aspects of the capability development process through a broad base of knowledge in science, technology, and management.

The increasing sophistication and complexity of military operations make it necessary to have skilled commanders and staff that can effectively use, maintain, and influence the acquisition of the right defence resources. The department provides these advanced skills and refers to the process as giving Officers and Warrant Officers “the AMS Advantage”.

AMS students learn the skills and knowledge needed by tomorrow’s leaders today. Our graduates understand the impact and benefits of new capabilities on doctrine and operational concepts, allowing them to play a key role in developing the CAF of tomorrow.

If you are interested in playing a key role in building the future CAF  talk to your career manager or contact AMS at rmcamssma@forces.gc.ca.

AMS produces graduates for the Canadian Army and other CAF stakeholders with the technical knowledge, project management expertise, analytical thinking and communication skills to support all stages of the capability development cycle. AMS graduates are leaders who give back to the institution by helping develop the Army and CAF of tomorrow.
